Loretta Devine is a multi-talented actress with extensive credits in quality productions on both stage and screen. A native of Houston, Texas, Devine received her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. Her career began on the New York stage where she amassed a long list of Broadway credits, including the role of "Lorell" in Michael Bennett's DREAMGIRLS, and the role of "Lilian" in Bob Fosse's Broadway hit BIG DEAL. After moving to Los Angeles, Loretta launched as impressive television and film career which includes: A DIFFERENT WORLD, NBC miniseries THE MURDER OF MARY PHAGEN, LITTLE NIKITA, (co-starring Sydney Poitier), REBOUND, AMOS & ANDREW, HOODLUM, and DON KING: ONLY IN AMERICA. Loretta is probably best known for her work in WAITING FOR EXHALE and THE PREACHER'S WIFE, for which she was awarded two NAACP Image Awards. Miss Devine was most recently seen in the Columbia/TriStar thriller URBAN LEGEND where she portrayed a security guard investigating a series of brutal murders on a college campus. Loretta has completed work of three additional films - soon to be released: the Mirimax drama DOWN IN DELTA, directed by Maya Angelou, Mario Van Peebles' LOVE KILLS, and the BET/Showtime production Funny Valentines, opposite Alfred Woodard. |
