The Mission

The mission of the Computer Technology Institute is prepare teens for the 21st century by developing their interests and skills in information technology.

Programs
oldepicentre provides ACCESS to information technology to the general public including teens, 365 days a year from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Twelve computers are available in the oldepicentre CyberCafe loaded with Microsoft Office, desktop publishing software, games and high speed Internet access. TRAINING in special instructional areas is offered in Video
Game Design, Claymation/Animation Production and Hardware Repair. As the skills of teens develop, they are put to WORK in oldepicentre technology businesses and programs.

oldepicentre is also San Diego County’s 2nd Technology Outreach Center for the San Diego Futures Foundation. 500 computers donated by the county will be refurbished at oldepicentre and distributed to schools and community organizations throughout San Diego. Teens and adults are working together to learn from each other and give back to their community.

Results
• Since Internet access was obtained by January of 2000, customers have used oldepicentre’s technology services 560 times.
• Over 80 teens have participated in training.
• Programs are increasing in depth and quality.
• Classes like A+ Computer Repair Certification and Video Production will start this fall.

oldepicentre is a program of Harmonium, Inc. a 501(c)(3) community based organization serving San Diego since 1975. Technology programs are supported by grants and donations of equipment and technical assistance from eBay, County of San Diego, IBM, Jack and Jill Foundation of America, Pacific Bell, San Diego Futures Foundation and Qualcomm.
