Management of SDEF’s mission and future is achieved through the
leadership of active board members in addition to employees at the Ecocenter
.
Current
members of the board are listed below:
Board Officers
Jonathan S. Fish, Chairman and CEO. Jon Fish is proficient
in general and financial leadership; strategic planning; acquisitions;
SEC reporting, and business development for companies in diverse industries
operating internationally and domestically. Mr. Fish’s educational
accomplishments include an MBA from Harvard Business School. Prior to
joining SDEF Mr. Fish was the Executive Vice President and CFO for Advanced
Marketing Services, Inc., a $400 million NASDAQ company.
L. Sue Loftin, Secretary. Sue Loftin is a practicing
attorney specializing in real estate, finance, and corporate law, including
non-profit associations, since 1980. Ms. Loftin’s commitment to
affordable housing and her community has been recognized by the State
of California, County of San Diego, and numerous honors and awards from
performing arts, women’s and educational groups.
David M. Smith, Treasurer. David Smith is a practicing
Certified Public Accountant with over thirty years experience in both
private industry and public accounting. During his tenure in private
industry, Mr. Smith has held the positions of Auditor, Controller, Chief
Financial Officer and President of various SEC reporting companies.
Directors (listed alphabetically)
Tom Campbell, Director. Tom Campbell has gained an
international reputation for his expertise in communications and marketing.
He has provided advice and counsel in many different countries including
England, where he was a speaker and became an alumnus of Ditchly Foundation
at Oxford Univerity. Mr. Campbell was recognized on the floor of the
United States Senate for his leadership and on going efforts to benefit
the American consumer. He was appointed again in 2004 to the congressional
Advisory Board on Technology. He also serves on the Board of Directors
of Ken Cranes Home entertainment, the Advisory Boards of Icon Solutions,
a Washington based think tank and global facilitator, and KFX Energy.
John B. McCallan, Jr., Director.
John McCallan is the owner of Pearson Ford in San Diego and Raceway
Ford in Riverside. Mr. McCallan’s business success, interest in
alternative fuel vehicles and community involvement made him the principal
responsible for development of the AFV-focused Regional Transportation
Center. In addition to SDEF, he supports the San Diego community be
serving the Boy Scouts of San Diego, El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement
Association, and San Diego County Salute to Education (providing scholarships
to high school seniors), among other area groups.
Beryl S. Stajich, Director. Beryl Stajich has more
than 35 years experience in business development and marketing with
Ford Motor Company, including implementation of Ford’s dedicated
alternative fuel vehicle activities. Mr. Stajich has coordinated the
launch of six major car and truck products, including the Ford Explorer
in 1990, and helped design and fund the SDEF-related, AFV-focused Regional
Transportation Center.
George W. Stratman, Director. George Stratman is Director
of the Outdoor Education program for the San Diego County Office of
Education. Mr. Stratman oversees the operation of three Outdoor Schools
and five Outreach Programs which provide science-based education to
a combined total of about 100,000 school students each year. He is a
member of the Environmental Education Advisor Committee for the California
State Department of Education, where he develops policy and programs
for environmental education throughout California. Finally, Mr. Stratman
is on the board of the Community Campership Council that helps San Diego
County’s needy students access quality environmental education
and summer camping programs.

As a non-profit education focused foundation SDEF depends on the support

Budget and Operations.
The operating budget for SDEF and the Ecocenter
only needs 10 percent
of its funds for administration expenses- leaving 90 percent dedicated
to the primary mission of providing students with a unique and lasting
environmental education experience. The Foundation incurs a total cost
of about $20 for each student that experiences the Ecocenter
education
program.
