Current Technology Resources
CASA's current technology resources include relatively high-end computers, as well as those that have become obsolete, e.g. Apple IIe. The range of levels of technology is due to CASA’s dependence on donations. The curriculum for all four age groups is based on computer and telecommunication technology. It is designed to partner undergraduates enrolled in a university Practicum course with children/adults around computer-game activities. Educational software, as well as more commercially designed games, form much of the activities for the children. Adults, on the other hand, use software targeting job skills, such as Excel, Word, Mario Teaches Typing, and Internet use.

Innovation in Education

CASA is innovative and futuristic. It uses computer and telecommunication technology to create curriculum that not only is successful in attracting and retaining learners of all ages, but also promotes biliteracy and bilingualism while pursuing learners' optimal learning potential. In collaboration with more expert participants, learners engage in academic type interactions that will prepare them to meet the rigor of K-12 and higher education: i.e., problem-solving and meaning-making skills central to academic achievement and educational mobility. This is accomplished without giving up the home language and culture for English and mainstream knowledge.

Another innovative aspect of the project is the commitment and support given by members of the local community. Unlike many other computer-mediated centers today, CASA thrives under the direction and guidance of community participants, students, and parents. The curriculum is bilingual and designed by the community women who have joined our staff. It is reshaped continuously to meet the everyday realities of this bilingual community. More importantly, CASA has achieved its success because of the invaluable efforts and endless volunteer work that the community has provided these past 12 years.
