| Strategic Partnerships University Linkage |
As the scope of the projects has grown, so has the need on the university to provide more undergraduates to community sites. Meeting this need has proven a challenge. Efforts to involve the collaboration of other departments and other colleges and universities has proven helpful in addressing the sustainability of our project. Program and relationship development is established between the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), Southwestern College, Palomar College, and San Marcos State University. The interaction between CASA and the university community is exemplified in the UCSD program: Thirty-five UCSD undergraduate students from a one three-quarter practicum course assisted the various activities of CASA. Students learned socio-historical theories in the Practicum in Child Development Course, which was supported this year by the Communication, Psychology and Human Development Departments. As part of the course requirement, students spent four hours a week at one of the four CASA activities collaborating with both children and adult learners. University faculty support CASA by providing their expertise in research, evaluation, and dissemination. |
