CASA South / Casa Familiar
The second CASA–South site is housed in Casa Familiar. In the Fall of 2000, CASA was invited by Casa Familiar, a non-profit community service agency located in San Ysidro, to open a third site. The goal of the project, with the assistance of Southwestern College students and community members, is to work collaboratively on computer-based activities to help families gain access to educational resources by creating developmentally and culturally relevant nurturing learning environments from which parents and their children can take root and grow socially and academically.munity.

Other Activities
Unlike other CASA sites, Casa Familiar requires that parents participate in the activities of CASA with their children. Therefore, there is a built-in Parent Group to support the CASA activities at this site. This year Casa Familiar will initiate its first Wizard assistant Club (2001-2002). Wizard assistants are participant children who have advanced to expert level participation in the program. These children become assistants to their younger peers and also take on program coordination responsibilities. There are a total of three adolescent LCM participants who have advanced to expert level participation and are ready to begin their journey as Wizard Assistants.
